On December 3rd, 2010, the House reauthorized federal Child Nutrition programs by passing the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (S. 3307)! The announcement of the date of the Presidential signing of The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act is expected shortly. Our partners at Food Research and Action Center reported that the signing will be accompanied by a strengthened commitment by the President to fix the SNAP cut contained in the bill.

This victory, over 2 years in the making and a year overdue, could not have happened without your persistent advocacy. Thank you to everyone who made phone calls, wrote letters and hosted legislative visits. Your voice made the difference in what turned out to be a long and contentious struggle to improve federal child nutrition programs.

Your voice is needed today and in the remaining days of the lame duck session.

We are redoubling our efforts to push for the SNAP fix to be included in any legislative vehicle. Please share this with all of your networks, in Oregon and nationally. Let’s speak with a strong, unified voice and call for Congress to fix the impending cuts to the food benefits of hundreds of thousands of Oregonians and millions of people nationally.

Take two actions today:

Call your Members of Congress today, both Senators and your representative, and urge them to fix the SNAP cut during the lame duck session. (Switchboard 202-224-3121)

Call the White House, and urge the President to work with congress to fix the SNAP cut during the lame duck session. 202-456-1414
