(from the Oregon Food Bank)

Good news for child nutrition programs! Thanks to a groundswell of public support that the Oregon Food Bank community has been an important part of, The House Education and Labor Committee voted to pass the Improving Nutrition for America’s Children Act (H.R. 5504) out of committee. Now we have to convince Congress to prioritize H.R. 5504 and pass it before the end of August.

In addition to the improvements already included in Chairman Miller’s bipartisan bill (allowing more rural communities to operate summer food programs, promoting the expansion of the School Breakfast Program, and improving the nutritional quality of school meals), the bill will now expand the Afterschool Meal Program to all 50 states.

Wednesday, July 21st and Thursday, July 22nd are national call-in days for Child Nutrition Reauthorization. Tell your legislators to pass Child Nutrition Reauthorization before the end of August, because America’s children can’t wait.
Please call your Senators and Representative  and then report your calls either through our web page or by emailing (our goal is 50 confirmed calls in the next 2 days).
Thank you for your support,
Sarah Flynn
