Senate budget leaders have singled out the International Affairs account in the FY 2011 budget for deep budget cuts totaling $4 billion. We need your help to make sure these cuts do not happen.

Please call Sen. Jeff Merkley and Sen. Ron Wyden at 1-800-826-3688 by 4 p.m. (Eastern) on Friday, May 21. Urge them to sign the bipartisan Kerry-Lugar Dear Colleague letter to the Senate Appropriations Committee leaders in support of full funding for International Affairs.

The Dear Colleague effort is being led by Senators John Kerry (D-MA) and Richard Lugar (R-IN), along with Senators Richard Durbin (D-IL), Christopher Bond (R-MO), and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).
The International Affairs budget accounts for less than 1.5 percent of the entire federal budget, but its impact is enormous in terms of relieving the hunger and poverty affecting millions around the world, supporting America’s humanitarian and democratic values, building global stability, and combating terrorism.

Your main message should be: The International Affairs budget is essential to building hope and opportunity around the world. Please sign the bipartisan Kerry-Lugar letter urging the Senate Appropriations Committee leadership to support the president’s International Affairs budget request for FY 2011.

Explain your message using these key points:

  • In addition to supporting vital diplomatic efforts around the world, the International Affairs budget also supports effective programs focused on poverty reduction by improving agriculture, nutrition, health, water, and education systems.
  • The United States should not shortchange these critical programs that affect millions of hungry and poor people around the world, especially in these difficult economic times.
  • Please sign the bipartisan letter in support of the president’s FY 2011 International Affairs budget request.

Tell Sen. Jeff Merkley and Sen. Ron Wyden to sign the bipartisan Kerry-Lugar Dear Colleague letter to the Senate Appropriations Committee leaders in support of full funding for International Affairs.Share this on Facebook or Twitter.

Thank you for your support.
